Co-Create & Challenge the Future of Humanity with us!

An event where you experience and discuss the future of humanity in 4 different stations that each communicate the environment and the climate in unconventional ways. Expect the breathing Lung Tree, a futuristic VR-experience, narratives of a good life and try wearing a robotic tail to reconnect with nature…

Alarm bells are ringing – its code red for humanity! One might argue that humanity is in open conflict with the eco system as we are facing the largest threat ever – climate change. As a group, we humans do not seem to be able or willing to do the necessary changes to prevent the disaster. Time is ticking – and what do we do?

We researchers are busy creating knowledge that is to contribute to a better, more sustainable world. But what does this better world really look like? And how does it need to look if we are to save the planet? Do our conceptions of what is a good life is rhyme with the climate goals? We invite people to explore these questions as part of an interactive workshop event!

During our workshop we invite a broad group of people, including children, to participate in co-creating and challenging what it means to be human – today – and what needs to be done for tomorrow? Researchers in Environmental Psychology will demonstrate different visualizations that are meant to make us think – and reflect. For this, we use both high-tech (virtual reality, data-visualization, a robotic wearable tail that moves with your body) and low-tech (narratives and eco-art) approaches to illustrate different challenges that humanity is facing, and we invite everyone to explore the future of humanity together with us in playful ways. By appealing to different senses rather than simply informing, our goal is to explore together with the participants what it means to be human – and what it should mean to be human – and co-create the future of humanity together!

Free waffles, fruit and drinks will be served for all participants during the workshop(s)!

14:15 - 17:00: "Challenge the future of humanity with us". Here we will have 4 stations with Introductions, ecovisualisations, co-designing exercises and tapas walk-and talk (1st slot), max 50 people can sign up. grown-ups and children of all ages can take part.

Here is a short description of the 4 stations we will have in our workshop. Participants will rotate between stations so everyone will experience each station.

The VR-experience. (Amanda)

The Future Mobility (Nature In Your Face)

Narratives of the future (Parissa)

Reconnecting humans to the ecosystem. Here, the participants can try on a robotic tail and feel it move as part of their body. (Erica)

All participants will be assigned to a group. Each group will then rotate between stations, so everyone attends each station. At each station, we will present an initial eco-visualization that is intended to “evoke emotions”. We then work in each group with co-creative different “visions of the future”related to each stations theme. At each station different mediums will be used to co-create visions (poetry, narratives, drawing…).

The workshop will be documented, and the visions of the future will be used in research.

Please note that photos will be taken during the festival on the 22nd and 23rd of September. The images will only be used for communication and information related to the festival going forward
